question if he were to name john kerry, for example, the senator from massachusetts as his secretary of state, he would be confirmed presumably, would that open the door for a republican to be the next senator though from massachusetts? i'm speaking about the current senator, the outgoing senator scott brown who's still pretty popular there. >> he is popular. that's a great point. i know he was just defeated, but he is a formidable political talent. i honestly have no idea if that's playing a role in these deliberations. clearly john kerry is qualified to be the secretary of state as well. my best guess is it's exactly what ari was saying which is the president is asking who is most in sync with my foreign policy? ambassador rice is someone who helped form late the obama foreign policy. i think senator kerry would too. democrats are now in a position where we have an embarrassment of riches. i really hope they don't start worrying about this or that political matter. in democrats can't win elections in massachusetts, there's something fundamentally wrong with what we're doing. >> he

kerrey, who also won that coveted award. john mccain, fritz hollings, john kerry, bob dole, and others. all of whom served their country with valor. here is what warren rudman said about that -- if you have had that experience, not much is left in life that will intimate you. nothing did intimate warren rudman. he was fearless in the pursuit for the right. he served on the ethics committee where i first got to know him -- warren rudman. justice souter and i talked about that a few days ago. i got a call from him and he asked me to come over and spend some time with him. i was happy to do that. he gave me an assignment. i was a new senator. the assignment was not an easy one. they thought i could do it. it worked out just fine. i got to know him very well. on the ethics committee, he was known as mr. integrity. he was known as mr. integrity in everything he did in life. that put a big exclamation mark on his service in the senate. it is because of him and his high regard for this young man who he recommended be on the supreme court that i was able to make a friend. i have known a lot of

on a sunday show to get the secretary of state job. she says she would much prefer senator john kerry for that job. because, yeah, he's never been a politician. or presumably, she's still okay with the current secretary of state, hillary clinton. it's not like she's ever run for anything. you know, obviously she's never been on a sunday show. if she had been on a sunday show, she'd ever gone on a sunday show, that obviously would have disqualified her from becoming secretary of state. that would show her to be behaving in a political fashion. everybody knows the secretary of state cannot do anything political. seriously? there is a mismatch between the seriousness of the things that we actually need to get done as a nation and the quality of the system in washington that is the means by which we must get those things done. syria is not our war, and syria is not going to be our war. but there are tens of thousands of people dead there already. and the regime there appears to have just turned off the lights, pulled the plug, disconnected that country entirely from the eyes of the world.
